A242 Alicanto monster, bird

A crane like bird with glittery wings that stays in mines and uses its hard beak to dig. Its dig ability is aimed at metal more in mines, and will eventually eat the ore,

making the ore a drop when butchered. If the bird already has an ore in inventory, it will not eat another ore. When detecting players, the bird will quickly retreat to the

nearest mine exit and attempt to fly off a ledge or cliff. [9]

Small creatures do not attack unless specified. They mainly exist for atmosphere and are easy to kill. Small creatures react in fear and are prone to be destroyed accidentally

by spells or physics. Small creatures are useful to alchemists and crafters who needs ingredients. They are also a good indicator of the presence of larger creatures, which do

attack.

Most insects have AI patterns that involve crawling along certain terrain types or objects.

[edit] Swarms

Swarms are mainly for effect. Swarms are low priority in cases of low framerate or lag. Swarms have a maximum size limit per area to prevent excess repetition. Swarms do not

appear if two different swarms are already present in the same area. Most swarms can be destroyed by walking in the vicinity of the swarm, causing a scattering effect. Using a

torch or fire spell can set the swarm on fire, causing fire to spread to other objects and surfaces.

Crop eating animals include rabbits, rats, raccoons, squirrels, crows, locust swarms, giant locusts. Pests have a list of targets specific to that creature, including crops,

plants, flowers, vegetables, food, food storage, and trash. Pets can be shooed away with players, NPCs, trained animals, spells and scarecrows. Scarecrows can be equipped with

clothes, cloak, hat, scythe, and other weapons. Can enchant as a sentinel or automaton.

Monsters spawn based on rarity, terrain, surrounding monsters and surrounding players. Any monster can be spawned from the database given the right conditions. Ecology rules

can limit the number of different monsters in an area, such as sticking to common farm animals, jungle, animals, or snow animals, sticking to a group of five different monster

types, having a maximum population of twenty monsters in an area, increasing or decreasing commonality of one monster, preventing a monster type from spawning for a limited

time, preventing high population or high variety in a certain area, and limiting population and variety based on lag, bandwidth, number of players in area, and level of players

in area. Ecology rules favor a balanced ratio of monsters, with animals and easy monsters as easy targets and prey for tougher monsters. Ecology can specify more weak monsters

and less strong monsters, a medium number of average strength monsters, a few strong monsters, one or two very strong monsters, or one hard level monster. Monsters such as

dragons tend to spawn as one per area, with a rare chance of spawning in the first place. Mythological monsters tend to have higher rarity and appear less frequently than

common animals.
